Foundations are an essential component of any building structure, connecting it to the ground and transferring loads from the structure to the ground. Foundations  can be classified into shallow or deep, depending on their depth and the way they transfer loads to the ground.

Site Survey and Assessment

Different construction projects have different foundation requirements, depending on the size and nature of the build as well as the composition and quality of the ground. Our trained foundation specialists will assess the site in detail before designing a foundation solution that will provide suitable support for the building.

Strip foundations

One type of shallow foundation commonly used in construction is the strip foundation. A strip foundation, also known as a strip footing, is a continuous strip of concrete placed in a trench used to provide support for linear structures such as walls or closely-spaced rows of columns. The minimum thickness of the strip is typically 150mm.

Pile and Ground Beam Foundations

Ground beams are made of reinforced concrete, which rests directly on piles. Once the site excavation has been completed and the piles are in place, the piles are then cropped to the correct height and formwork is positioned to enclose the entire ground beam area. Once everything is in position and the formwork has been checked for size, the concrete reinforcement should be positioned and tied into place. At this point, pre-mixed concrete is poured into the formwork.

Pad Foundations

Pad foundations are a form of spread foundation formed by rectangular, square, or sometimes circular concrete ‘pads’ that support localized single-point loads such as structural columns, groups of columns or framed structures. This load is then spread by the pad to the bearing layer of soil or rock below. Pad foundations can also be used to support ground beams
